About Ali:

Ali's interest in the world of horticulture was first piqued back in 1996 with a 3 year stint working for the RHS.

She revisited her interest in horticulture several years later, embarking on a course of study in order to obtain the RHS level 2 Certificate in Horticulture, whilst simultaneously volunteering as a gardener at Waterperry Gardens in Oxfordshire to gain the all important practical experience.  This led on to a  year's placement as an apprentice gardener on a country estate. Studying for the Diploma with the Oxford College of Garden Design then followed, from where Ali graduated with a high merit.

Fig came about when Ali and Ben met whilst studying at the Oxford College of Garden Design. With different approaches and ideas, they provide an innovative and client centred approach to garden design. They love nothing more that to chew over the merits of different designs and planting schemes, finding the perfect solution for a space between them. Whatever a client's preference and needs, both Ali and Ben are totally dedicated to creating them a unique, outdoor haven.

About Ben:

Ben has always had a passion for nature, landscape and the environment so it was a natural choice for him to read Environmental Science at the University of Plymouth, attaining a BSc in 1996.

Ben spent some time as a volunteer for Friends of the Earth before joining Hillier Nurseries where he spent 13 years working in their garden centres - as a Manager for the last 8. He was part of the team responsible for the Hillier stand at Chelsea Flower Show for 11 years, helping the company to achieve its world record breaking 70 consecutive Chelsea Gold medals.

He completed the Post Graduate Diploma at the Oxford College of Garden Design in 2014, attaining a distinction. In 2017 Ben was part of the team helping to create the ‘best in show’ garden at the inaugural RHS Chatsworth Flower Show. As principle designer, he is a ‘Pre Registered member’ of the Society of Garden Designers.
